Jennifer hudson expressed how “beautiful” it would be to possibly participate in a “Verzuz” battle alongside his American Idol alum Fantasia barrino Thursday August 5, during an interview with “Big Tigger Morning Show”. “Verzuz” is a web series that highlights artists’ greatest hits and collaborations as they go head to head in a 20-round match. The series was created during the global pandemic last year by Swizz Beatz and Timbaland.

Hudson was on a press tour for his new movie “Respect,” a biography based on the life of the late great Aretha Franklin, when asked the million dollar question.

The 39-year-old told the hosts after revealing how she “lived” for the “Verzuz” fights, “It’s a great idea.” She added, without disclosing any other information: “It’s a great idea. Maybe one day we can do it. Maybe one day.”

Hudson concluded the conversation by listing her own choices that she would love to see on the “Verzuz” stage, including legendary performers Smokey Robinson and Stevie Wonder.

As the clip of Hudson’s interview apparently accepting an invitation to the “Verzuz” battle with Barrino began to circulate on social media, many people expressed how eager they were to see this competition become a reality.

“Now THAT I’ll be locked up for… because FREE YOURSELF is my shiiiiii.”

“Oh, let me make myself a soul food menu for that !!!”

“I can hear my eardrums ringing now. “

“It would definitely be a good battle.”

“Omg that would be epic.”

Hudson and Barrino previously entered the “American Idol” singing competition series in 2004. In the series, Hudson was among the seven finalists before voters ended his run on the show. Barrino ultimately won the “American Idol” title for season three.

Since then, both women have had successful careers in the entertainment industry. Hudson has appeared in several films such as “Sex and the City” and “Dreamgirls”. She went on to win a Golden Globe and an Oscar for her portrayal of Effie White in the 2006 musical. The mother-of-one also has two Grammy Music Awards on her charts.

Barrino has released seven studio albums and has sold millions of copies worldwide. She also received a Grammy Music Award in 2011 for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for her song “Bittersweet”.

Despite all the excitement over Hudson’s approval for battle, there is no official date in place for a battle. Barrino has yet to respond to Hudson’s statements.
